It wasn’t that long ago that a trip to the corner video shop was the most convenient way to get a movie. The next generation it seems will be getting their movies from movie downloads, avoiding any trips to the store. Below is a sample of some of the movies you can find using movie download sites.
Kill or Be Killed: Karate champions lock limbs as ex-Nazi tutor desires reprisal on his Japanese counterpart who bested him in a battle in WW2. This is a cut above the typical martial arts fodder. Cast includes James Ryan, Norman Combes, Charlotte Michelle, and Danie DuPlessis. (90 minutes,’80)
Trader Horn: Early talkie classic filmed largely in Michigan forests still retains lots of enthusiasm in story of hero local trader Carey confronting tribal violence. Cast includes Harry Carey, Edwina Booth, Duncan Renaldo, Olive Brilliant Carey, Mutia Omoolu, and C. Aubrey Smith. (120 minutes,’31)
Only While I Laugh: Fun con-game film finds 3 con artists planning to sell a militant African ambassador fragment metal in annunciation cases. Cast includes Richard Attenborough, David Hemmings, Alexandra Stewart, and Nicholas Pennell. (104 minutes,’68)
Jurassic Park: Billionaire Attenborough asks paleontologists Dem and Neill, and mathematician Goldblum to examine his island entertainment park, populated with living dinosaurs. He even has his grandchildren tag along, peacefully skeptical that anything might go awry. Slam-bang thriller is loaded with action, anticipation, hair-raising chills, and landmark visual effects: the dinosaurs appear real. It won three Oscars, for Graphic Outcomes, Noise, and Noise Outcomes Revising. Cast includes Sam Neill, Laura Dem, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Bob Poke, Ariana Richards, Samuel L. Jackson, and Wayne Horseman. (126 minutes,’93)
The Prince and the Showgirl: Fairly good but slow moving comedy of saucy American show gal Monroe being courted by Prince Regent of Carpathia (Olivier) throughout the’11 coronation of George V. Filmed in England, with admirable performances by Monroe and Olivier. Cast includes Laurence Olivier, Sybil Thorndike, Jeremy Spencer, and Richard Wattis. (117 minutes,’57)
The Priests Wife: Hardly amusing blend of drama and humor with Loren as a disenchanted singer who imagines she could persuade pastor Mastroianni to acquire discharge from his promise of celibacy and wed her. Weightier addressing of this topic might be heard on talk shows. Cast includes Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, Venantino Venantini, Jacques Stany, Pippo Starnazza, and Augusto Mastrantoni. (106 minutes,’71)
The Night of the Following Day: Excellent cast makes this sordid story of a young gal’s abduction somehow more fascinating than it should be; pretty coarse in spots. Cast includes Marlon Brando, Richard Boone, Rita Moreno, Pamela Franklin, Jess Hahn, and Gerard Buhr. (93 minutes,’69)
Titanic: It is the maiden voyage of the spectacular new ship. People are excited to make the voyage from England to New York. The Titanic is deemed unsinkable, but then the unthinkable happens, and the ship starts sinking into the Atlantic.
All about My Mother: After a lady loses her child, she returns to Barcelona, renews a old relationship with a transvestite, and becomes involved with an actress her child adored. Cast includes Cecilia Roth, Marisa Paredes, Penelope Cruz, Antonia San Juan, Candela Pena, and Eloy Azorin. (101 minutes,’99)
